As a child, Caroline enjoyed math, art and building things so a career in structural engineering was destined. Her interest in all things dynamic and her desire to protect people led her to designing structures first to resist earthquake loads and more recently blast.
Caroline is a member of Hinman's Senior Management Team and is responsible for heading the Marketing and Business Development Department, along with providing technical consulting and management to a range of Hinman projects. These projects include a number of new Federal Courthouses, Federal Office Building renovations, DoD anti-terrorism projects, as well as a new public safety building, a joint traffic management center and a new headquarters building for the National Geospatial Agency.
She began her career in UK in the mid 1990s working as a structural engineer for Buro Happold Consulting Engineers and later Arup where she gained experience of all stages of design from project inception through to site supervision on a wide range of structures including timber gridshells, fabric and inflatable structures, unreinforced masonry buildings, retrofit and refurbishment projects, footbridges, tall buildings, as well as new build reinforced concrete and steel structures.
Pursuing her interest in earthquake engineering she relocated to San Francisco in 2002 with Arup and specialized in structural dynamics and finite element analysis using software LS-Dyna. In 2007, she joined the team at Hinman Consulting Engineers, Inc.
Caroline received her BEng in Civil & Structural Engineering from the University of Bath in the UK and her MS in Earthquake Engineering & Structural Dynamics from Imperial College, London. She is a registered Professional Engineer in California and a Chartered Engineer in the UK.
